The trailer also shows that you can go to MasterTyrannomon’s bar and hire “bodyguard” DIgimon there to accompany you on your adventures. Click here to see our full coverage of the game in case you need to get caught up with the above features.

The game is due for release in Japan on June 27, 2013. The first print release comes with a Limited Edition V-mon card. The card has no numbers (so it’s unusable), but it is designed like a first generation Digimon Card, Hyper Coliseum, and has Rina’s picture on it.

Next Legend Of Heroes Game Uses A Materia-Like Orbment System

Next Legend Of Heroes Game Uses A Materia Like Orbment System

Previously, we reported some of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Flash’s special attacks, known as Crafts. The Crafts are unique to each character and can be obtained upon reaching specific levels. In Falcom’s latest update, they share a close look at the series’ latest Orbment system, which uses Quartz to teach characters different abilities and Arts.

Next Legend Of Heroes Game Uses A Materia Like Orbment System

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky used an Orbment system called Tactical Orbments, which was a small device that allowed players to use various Arts. In The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Flash, it's a device called the Tactical Orbment ARCUS, which is used by Rean and others from Class VII. Similar to the device in Trails in the Sky, it will use Quartz to enhance the user’s abilities and allows them to use various Arts, however, this time with a few added twists.

Next Legend Of Heroes Game Uses A Materia Like Orbment System

The above shows an open and sealed slot in the Orbment device. You’ll get to place Quartz in any open slot; however, in order to open a closed slot, you’ll need to use an item called the Sepith, which can be acquired from combat rewards or treasure chests.

The above is a look at Rean’s Orbment on the left and Alisa’s to the right. As you can see, their patterns are different, so you’ll have to come up with different combinations that will fit their style.

In previous The Legend of Heroes titles, each Quartz’ attribute determined which type of magic could be used from it. This time, instead of it depending on the attribute, it will depend on the Quartz itself.

A normal Quartz may have an ability or ArtS enclosed within it. For example, you could might see one with a fire attribute, that will increase a character’s strength when inserted in their Orbment. The Silver Thorn Arts is another example of what could be acquired from a normal Quartz.

A Rare Quartz will be more valuable, as it will contain more useful Arts such as “Tear”, the water-attribute healing Arts. In addition, there will also be “S-Rare” Quartz with powerful Arts, which can’t be bought in stores.

Here’s a look at the Master Quartz, which is a special Quartz placed in the middle of the Orbment. The Master Quartz will gain experience from combat and will enhance over time. As you level it up, the parameters will also increase and so will its special abilities. It will also progressively increase the types of Arts you can get from it.

The above image is a look at Rean’s Force Master Quartz, which focuses on strength. It has an ability called STR Up which increases the user’s strength each turn from the start of the battle. In addition, it allows the usage of the Fire Bolt Arts.

Next Legend Of Heroes Game Uses A Materia Like Orbment System

This Master Quartz is known as Angel, focuses on magic attack and is seen being used by Alisa. It has an ability called Revival that has a once per battle effect of recovering HP and CP before being knocked.

There are various Arts that can be used in many ways to attack, heal and support. The seven attributes of the Arts are Earth, Water, Fire, Wind,  Time, Mirage and Sky. Each enemy has their strengths and weaknesses against certain attributes, so knowing which ones to use against certain enemies will make battle more effective if you can nail their weaknesses.

Here’s a look at some of the flashy Arts:

Ancient Glyph (Earth)

A giant glyph-like object falls from the sky and crushes enemies. It will temporarily inflict a petrify effect to the target, making them unable to act.

Judgment Bolt (Wind)

The Judgment Bolt is not only a powerful attack, but it also temporarily disables enemies from using any Crafts.

Altair Canon (Sky)

The Altair Canon is an Arts that shoots a bright laser from the sky to punish enemies. It also has a chance of lowering the target’s magic attack and defense.

Silver Thorn (Mirage)

This Arts surrounds enemies with silver swords that strike at the same time. It also has the ability to put enemies in a state of confusion.

Chrono Burst (Time)

Next Legend Of Heroes Game Uses A Materia Like Orbment System

The Chrono Burst Arts is where the user pulls out two clocks which splits the time in two and accelerates time. Using it will allow you to take pull off consecutive actions.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Flash will be available in Japan on September 26 for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Remember Me Hands-On With The Custom Combo Creator

Remember Me Hands On With The Custom Combo Creator

Remember Me is an upcoming Capcom release that will combine platforming, exploration, stealth, plus lots of punching and kicking. Sounds like countless other games out there, right? Right.

'

But it's all in the details, as the saying goes. And it would appear that the first game to hail from Paris based Dontnod Entertainment, a new studio formed by individuals who worked on Rainbow 6, Splinter Cell, and Heavy Rain, is culmination of those aforementioned titles, of all the lessons learned, with a heavy sci-fi sheen laid on top.

'

What’s Remember Me all about? Well,it is the year 2084 (one hundred years removed from 1984, which is no coincidence, I was told by a Capcom rep) and memories appears to be as precious as gold, perhaps more so. So much so that there are individuals who are dedicated to the art of stealing and altering memories.

'

Remember Me Hands On With The Custom Combo Creator'

You play as one such person, Nilin, a former agent employed by MEMORIZE, the Big Brother of Remember Me. The demo I was able to test drive kicked off not long after the game's beginning, where she awakens in the slums of Paris, where memories junkies fight over scraps of pleasant thoughts (I think).

'

Nilin, quite appropriately enough, has had her memory wiped out, but thankfully you have some mysterious fellow passing along instructions, to help get one started. After learning the basics of combat, the demo required me to follow one of the underground denizens across town.

'

On a purely surface level, Remember Me was visually pleasing, despite the fact that the parts I traversed were designed to be ugly. Its rendition of Paris was that of a city that was once the cradle of art and culture, now ravaged by technology and politics. One that was also quite dark and confusing, hence they liberal use directions to help Nilin on the right track. It's clear that Dontnod Entertainment loves type, with the aforementioned instructions presented in big and bold blocks of text, bathed in white and orange. Remember Me is quite future stylish, albeit not in the most original of ways.

'

Though dark corners and sans-serif fonts aside, the heart of the game is running around and climbing, which feels a lot like Uncharted, as well as melee combat, which is reminiscent of quite a few other games on the market today, pretty much insert any name you can think of here, except with one significant twist: customization. This is achieved via the Combo Lab.

'

Remember Me Hands On With The Custom Combo Creator'

Like many similar games, you learn new moves as you play, but Remember Me allows you to create you own combos, called Pressens, by collecting the building blocks, called Procedural Mastering Power. The basic concept is that Nilin already knows these moves, and you're simply unlocking them as you go along. Makes sense. There are different types of Pressens, and the most intriguing thing is how the elements can be combined. For example, a Power Pressen is a combo that combines various different movies and ends with a flashy finish. You also have a Regen Pressen, which doesn't do much damage, but have regenerative qualities, if completed successfully.

'

With some tinkering around in the Combo Lab, I was able to create a string that both dished a significant amount of damage and also gave myself a little health. Though, not surprisingly, the button combination that brings everything together was hard to pull off; the combat is heavily reliant upon timing and not just pure button mashing. I was only able to pull of this super mega awesome combo 2 out of the 10 times.

'

The idea of a completely customized combo sounds great, and it's even better once one has been finally crafted. But the middle part is where I had problems with Remember Me. It's a bit ironic how a game that places such importance on customization plus sexy, clear graphic design, is not able to get the two ideals talking.

'

The Combo Lab was somewhat of a chore to create combos, and I needed to be walked through the process quite heavily by the rep. There is a genuine fear that many casual players will become frustrated by the process of creating something truly unique and simply follow the onscreen prompts to create something basic. Then again, perhaps hardcore players will have no problem in the end, and maybe regular folk as well, after enough time has been spent learning the nuances of the interface. Admittedly, my time with Remember Me was quite fleeting.

'

Remember Me comes out soon, very soon. June 4 in North America to be exact.

Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII Will Have A Hard Mode With Better Drops

Speaking to Famitsu, game designer for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Yuji Abe and battle design director Nobuyuki Matsuoka rocked up more details on Hard mode for the game. Players can unlock Hard after finishing the game the first time, which will take anywhere from 20 to 50 hours.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Will Have A Hard Mode With Better Drops

Playing the game on Hard has its benefits–while monsters will also become more difficult, item drops and item quality will also increase, with some impossible-to-find-otherwise items only dropping in Hard. Fortunately, gamers will be able to carry Lightning’s upgraded stats, garb and abilities from their regular playthrough over to Hard mode.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Will Have A Hard Mode With Better Drops Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Will Have A Hard Mode With Better Drops

Matsuoka also shared that thinning the herd of a specific monster in an area might possibly spawn a boss version of them. These more powerful creatures will have a chance to drop rare items available only from them. This makes the aforementioned limb-targeting something to pay attention to, training players on where to chop on minion mobs before the big bads.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will  be out November 21 in Japan, February 11 in North America and February 14 in Europe for Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Microsoft’s XBox 360.

Shooting Games Are At A Difficult Crossroad, Says Shmup Developer G.Rev's CEO

"While we have seen more shoot 'em ups developed on consoles this generation, the market for shooters has been shrinking. Cave, makers of Akai Katana and Deathsmiles, is going through a transition. G.rev recently released Kokuga in the West and Siliconera asked Hiroyuki Maruyama, the CEO of G.rev, his thoughts about the state of the shooting game market.

'

Shooting Games Are At A Difficult Crossroad, Says Shmup Developer G.Revs CEO

'

"Yes, the current shooting market in Japan is at a very difficult crossroads. I am certain that the genre will not fade away at the dojin level, but in terms of an incorporated studio, to put it bluntly – you are not able to make a living on just making shooters," Maruyama said. G.rev's history is in arcade games and shooters. The company co-developed Ikaruga with Treasure and also made Under Defeat HD and Mamorukun Curse! which were also released here.

'

"With that in mind, you can say that we made Kokuga to target a more general audience. Since you can play with up to four people with only one copy of the game, we hope that established shmup fans will use the game to promote the genre to new gamers," Maruyama added.

'

G.rev's next project is developing a new Game Center CX or Retro Game Challenge title with Namco Bandai. I asked Maruyama about transitioning to other genres and what kind of game he would like G.rev to try. "Actually, we have developed quite a few titles outside of the shooting genre. Most of those projects were contracted work, so the G.rev name was not featured on those games. So, as in the past, we will continue to develop games across a variety of genres in the future," said Maruyama. "We would be interested in developing games in a number of genres. Personally, I would like to try to make a multiplayer action title. We will, of course, continue to make shooters as well."

'

We will have more discussion about G.rev's shooters on Siliconera soon.

Fate Zero Studio Ufotable Working On New Fate Stay Night Project

Fate/Zero Studio Ufotable Working On New Fate/Stay Night Project

Ufotable, the anime studio behind Fate/Zero, are working on a new Fate/Stay Night project, Anime News Network reports. Ufotable founder Hikaru Kondo announced the news on Friday, but provided no further details.

While Fate/Zero was animated by Ufotable, the Fate/Stay Night anime series and the Unlimited Blade Works film—which follows an alternate route through the game—were both animated by Studio DEEN.

Sentai Filmworks licensed both those projects in North America, while Funimation have licensed Fate/Zero for release with an English dub in 2013.
